Brazilian ships run the risk of being unable to dock in seaports abroad. The risk exists since the beginning of this year because the Brazilian government has not sent to the National Congress any proposal of adjustments of the Brazilian legislation according to the new international rules of shipping, which were enacted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Those rules entered in force on January and have the purpose of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases derived from the maritime transport. Pursuant to the new rules, the ships must develop a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), including maintenance and operation activities that result on the decrease of emission of greenhouse gases.
